REMOVALISTS - HOME LOCAL
Local removalists in Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and other cities generally charge an hourly rate. If you would like to take the stress out of the move by the relocation company doing the packing and unpacking, they will come to your home and provide a quote and discuss the process and plan.
You may prefer to pack yourself and save money. In that case the removalists will come on the day with their trolleys and equipment to pack the truck. If it is only a relatively short distance to travel, they will drive directly to your new location and unpack immediately. When discussing the quote, ask how long they expect the whole move to take.
Always check the company has adequate insurance for your goods.
If moving on the day of settlement or purchase of your new house, allow time for possible delays in settlement. You will not be able to collect keys or move in unless it has settled.
If moving into temporary accommodation for a period of time, most removalists in Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and other major cities are able to organise to store your goods in their storage facility. They will then deliver to your permanent accommodation when you are ready. This saves time and energy of an extra furniture move.
Relocating.com.au aims to take as much stress out of moving as possible - listing only reputable removalists in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and other states and territories in Australia for your peace of mind.
DO IT YOURSELF MOVING
For local moves, many choose to do it themselves with some help from family and friends. There are many hire companies such as truck hire where you can hire a truck with an automatic or manual transmission with or without hydraulic lifts. For short trips, 24 hours is generally sufficient hire time. Check you have enough organised helpers on the day of the move and a couple who can take care of the heavy goods you possess.
Check that your driver has the correct Drivers Licence to drive the truck you choose. A person with a standard Drivers Licence can drive up to a 3 ton truck but some experience in driving large vehicles is recommended. It is also recommended to take out adequate insurance in case damage is caused to the truck. Without insurance it may end up being an expensive move.
The hire company will also hire at an additional cost, trolleys and blankets. You will need to purchase rope.
Don’t forget to:
- start moving preparations two months prior to the move
- organise new schools
- organise and plan safe pet transport for your pets with their favourite food
- clean out your fridge and cupboards of out of date items leading up to the move
- clean cupboards of items you no longer use or need before the move. This saves time and expense
- call a local charity to collect furniture and items no longer needed. This helps other people and saves the environment
- organise packaging supplies
- label all boxes with name of room they are to go to in your new house and its contents
- put heavy items in small boxes. Large heavy boxes cause injury and risk ripping
- pack your pot plants
- pack your garden furniture and shed items
- pack a box of the things you will need on the first night and morning in your new home
- pack fridge items in a cool box with ice
- organise someone to clean the house or premises after you have left
- organise someone to clean you new premises before moving in
- check the time the Real Estate is open to collect the keys
- organise food and refreshments for your helpers
- redirect your mail
- transfer your utilities
- change the electoral roll
- encourage children to write to their old friends. This will help in the relocation process.
